I developed a system for living whole and fully alive. It’s called the Victory System, and it addresses the 5 voids all people have. The 5 voids are as follows:
1. Our personal void represents our personal health. It’s our balance, our character, our emotional, mental and physical health. If we’re not healthy in all ways, we can’t accomplish any of our dreams. We need to take care of our body, we need to laugh and cry, and read and learn. We need to have balance between the areas of life, we need to allow for down time to recuperate from our busyness. And we have within us a conscience, an innate knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. We possess desire, as fellow human beings, to do the right thing.
2. Our relationship void is filled by being with others, family and friends, community. It’s completed by giving and receiving graciously. We weren’t meant to be alone, we were created to support, care for and love one another. If you’ve ever been in the position where loneliness overtook you, you have no doubt that the relationship void must have attention given to it in order for real happiness to take place.
3. The money void is usually pretty obvious. Whether having a lot of money is important to you or not, we all need a roof over our head and food in our bellies. The money void needs filled. If we want a financially comfortable existence, where needs as well as some wants are met, the money void very much matters.
4. The God void is proven by two simple examples. The world is full of people who make it a regular practice to have spiritual needs met. Therefore, they exist. Everyone from Hollywood celebrities, to millionaire business people, to moms who home school their kids work diligently to find their purpose and have inner piece. The second example is China. I’ve done work in communist China three times. Each time I witnessed thousands of faces that looked empty and null as I passed them on the street. No smiles, no purpose. Except, that is, for some people I met who practiced faith. They had so much joy it was almost hard to hide them from the authorities who sought to keep them bound. Their God void was so filled, they were willing to suffer for it, millions of them. The God void is real and working on filling it gives us the peace we so long far.
5. Finally, the work void. We all need to be a part of work that matters and we need work that we love doing. This gives us self-worth. Working on improving our performance in any career, whether business tycoon or stay at home parent, that gives us these things means we’re filling the necessary work void. You know that feeling at the end of a project? The one where you feel so good about what you’ve just done? That’s evidence that the work void is one of the voids.
Now, remember you can connect to that void’s point providing you’re aware of and working towards a victory in that void. Our goal is to be able to connect the points and create a victory star at the end of each day.
Within these 5 points are the 12 core areas of life. We did a little dream planning earlier in this workbook regarding these areas. Here we review simply for ease of understanding. It’s possible that ten areas can sound like a lot. You might even think they aren’t all necessary or you just don’t know what goal to set for each area in order to complete your star. The following provides the answer and/or ideal for each of the fore-mentioned scenarios you might find your self in. Very simply, each core area, when complete, means we experience the word or words next to it. I believe, after reviewing the list, you’ll agree we all need and want what’s listed as opposed to its opposite.
The Personal Health Point on the Victory Star
1. The Recreational Core needs attention because it’s where we find life balance. It means we have some fun in our life. We do some things we enjoy regularly. We don’t just work, work, work.
2. The Character Core exists to enable us to be a good person, to have integrity, to do the right thing, to work unto excellence, to possess confidence. When we give this core attention we become the kind of person other people love to be around and the kind of person we’re proud to be.
3. The Emotional Core simply means we’re happy. It determines how we respond to things, rather than how we react to them. It means we’re stable.
4. The Mental Core is there for our constantly growing intelligence. We’d all like to know we’re at least reasonably intelligent and feeding this core creates that. If asked we’d all say we don’t want to be seen or feel mentally less than what we know we are. No one wants to feel ‘dumb’.
5. The Physical Core is there for our physical health. When it’s full, we’re fit, healthy, full of life and energy and looking, feeling, and acting at least 10 years younger than we are!
The Relationship Point on the Victory Star
6. The Family Core is being fed as build strong family bonds, forgive offences and make memories. None of us get to the end of our life regretting not working more. Family matters more than anything, and all families aren’t blood related.
7. The Social Core area is filled when we have real friendships and enjoy them, as opposed to be alone and lonely.
The Money Point on the Victory Star
8. The Financial Core area is complete when you’re financially comfortable. The opposite would be not even making ends meet. This one is an easy one. We need to be aware of and working on this area.
The God Point on the Victory Star
9. The Spiritual Core area results in inner peace when it’s full. No anxiety, but trust and confidence. No fear, but faith. Having a life absent of anxiety and fear is something we all want.
The Work Point on the Victory Star
10. Our Career Core area is fueled by doing work we love and knowing that what we do makes a difference, that it creates victory for others. We all want this. No one would say they long to detest what they do for a living or that they hope it doesn’t do any good for anyone else.
The point is this, these voids and the 5 points on the star are elements everyone on this earth; whether in Wyoming or Wisconsin, in America or Africa, in Figi or in Frankfurt, wants. People are the same everywhere.
The ability to connect the points and create the Victory Star means you are aware of and working on each area of total life victory. When you are aware of and working on each area those are the positive steps toward victory. You can use the star to check yourself at any point in any day as long as you know the five points.
To ensure victory, each day ask yourself, “How did I do today? Was I aware of and did I work on all five areas?”
